So, I Picked Up My Camera Again

Captured somewhere along said “hike.”

Photography has been sitting on the back burner for a long, long time.

I haven’t picked up my camera nearly as much as I’d like to, but that doesn’t mean my creative hobbies have stopped. Life has just been busy, and somewhere along the way, photography became something I kept telling myself I’d get back to “eventually.”

Well, I think I’m slowly getting back to it.

Recently, my friends and I went out for what I wouldn’t necessarily call a hike, but it was a lovely little stroll. But I did something I hadn’t done in a while — I picked up my camera and brought it with me. I snapped a few photos along the way. Nothing particularly planned or elaborate, and honestly, it felt really good.

It reminded me of when we used to have actual photo shoots just for fun. We’d plan them out, find a location, put together outfits and spend an afternoon taking photos simply because we wanted to be creative and do something fun.

I honestly think the Tumblr era had something to do with this.

There was something about that time that made being creative just for the sake of being creative feel so normal. Everyone had a camera roll full of random moments, carefully curated blogs, Pinterest boards and an unnecessarily strong opinion about fonts. And I loved it.

It also got me thinking about how I used to have an active blog right after high school. I was surprisingly consistent with it, too. I wrote about whatever I was into, shared little pieces of my life and genuinely enjoyed having a place on the internet that was just mine.

And then I shut it down.

I’m honestly not even sure why.

Looking back, I really enjoyed it. So I figured, why not bring it back?

I’m not going to kid myself and promise that I’ll post every week or that I suddenly have endless free time. Life is chaotic and busy, and I’m still figuring out how to make room for the things I enjoy.

But I want to try.

So this is me slowly picking the camera back up, making things again and giving myself permission to have creative hobbies without needing them to become anything bigger.
